The National Reconstruction Party (Sequoyan: ᎬᎾᏕᎾ ᎠᏁᏍᎨᎲ ᎤᎾᏓᏟᏌᎲ, transliteration: Gvnadena Anesgehv Unadatlisahv,[lower-alpha 1] abbreviated ᎬᎠᎤ or GAU) is a right-wing Sequoyan political party and the current ruling party of Sequoyah. The party's founder and leader is General Atohi Dustu, the incumbent president of Sequoyah.
Dustu established the National Reconstruction Party on 22 May 2021 to politically support his provisional military government in the aftermath of the Sequoyan Civil War. The GAU won the presidency, control of Congress, and one of the country's six governorships in the 2022 elections, making it the largest political party in Sequoyah. The GAU is the leader of the right-wing Sequoyan Patriotic Alliance (SUT) that governs both the Senate and the People's Assembly, and through the SUT, the National Reconstruction Party is allied with the Creeperian League (LICRE), the Liberal Democrats for Progress and Change (NUGUAT), and the Renewed National Party (AGU).
Political analysts believe that Dustu established the National Reconstruction Party in order to have better control over party politics after the civil war rather than having to negotiate with Federalist Party (NIP) party leaders, especially in the aftermath of the failed Federalist-led Atagulkist revolt against Dustu's government in January 2021. Many Federalists defected to join the GAU shortly after its establishment with promises of retaining power in the post-civil war government. In October 2024, Dustu and Federalist Party leader Atsadi Onacona agreed to merge the Federalist Party into the National Reconstruction Party, marking the end of Sequoyah's second oldest political party.[1] The majority of remaining Federalists joined the GAU, but some instead joined the AGU or became independents. Some experts believe that the GAU–NIP merger was an attempt to consolidate Dustu's power within the SUT ahead of the 2025 Senate election.
According to the National Reconstruction Party, its political positions include social conservatism, Sequoyan nationalism, right-wing populism, and economic liberalism; some factions of the GAU also adhere to federalism, libertarianism, and Romerism. The party has been accused by its opponents and some analysts as governing in an authoritarian manner and of having autocratic ambitions. Political analysts generally place the GAU as being right-wing to far-right on the political spectrum. The GAU is a member of the International Patriotic League (LPI), an international alliance of right-wing to far-right political parties.
