The assassination of Agustín López Cabrera occurred on 9 October 1979 when armed gunmen of Mara Salvatrucha killed Agustín López Cabrera, the viceroy of the Creeperian viceroyalty of Zapatista. He as assassinated due to his anti-gang actions he had taken since he assumed office as viceroy in July 1978. His assassination led to the beginning of the Mara War a few days later on 15 October 1979.
