Kadlan is the primary and official language of Yosmistia, as well as the native language of the Mounpayites. There are about 7 million native speakers, however, there are close to 15 million total speakers. The language uses the Iberic script. Northern, Western, Majoccan, and Cadaillean are the four main dialects of the language. The central dialetct is spoken west of the Oréal Mountains; the western dialect is spoken in the Dlosel Gulf area towards the [xxx] Mountains; the Majoccan dialect is spoken along the southern border and the Tarqiqini Valley; and the Cadaillean dialect is spoken in the Cadaille area and northeast towards the border. dialetcs & location

The true origins of the language are not entirely known, though the Proto-Kadlan language is known to have been spoken by the Mounpayi tribe originally, in the Dlosel Gulf area. Proto-Kadlan was a spoken language and has very few records of written script. As the Quebecshirite culture expanded and came into contact with the tribe, the Kadlan vocabulary expanded rapidly, eventually evolving into the Old Kadlan language. Modern-day Kadlan is almost completely unrecognizable from its Proto-Kadlan origins, and has distinct influences from Quebecshirite, Majoccan, and Jackian, though its grammar is noticeably distinct.

Etymology

The name Kadlan comes from the Old Kadlan term kado lang, which means "gift of tongue." In ancient Mounpayite culture, the term was used to denote any language and speaking in general, whereas the contemporary definition is used for the Kadlan language, specifically.
